fishsauce.jpgFish sauce, (called nam pla in Thai) is commonly used instead of salt. It is made by packing barrels full of fish and salt, aging it, and then bottling the result. The flavor is very salty and a bit fishy, and probably the most used condiment in Thailand and most of Southeast Asia. It's so widespread that you will likely be able to find it in a well stocked Supermarket, and certainly at an Asian food store, or online here.

This brand is called Tiparos and is imported from Thailand. There are many other kinds of fish sauce, but this is the brand we like.
